That Was A Good Memory – 10in sculptural vessel
My ceramic sculptures are an extension of the Visions in Color painting series, which focuses on optimism and tenacity. While working with clay can be labor-intensive, it also serves as a great reminder to slow down to discover all the wonderful little details in art, and the natural world around us.
This is one of three biomorphic vessels inspired by hearts and coral reefs.
That Was A Good Memory was born from hand building slowly, one section at a time, allowing the form to emerge, every edge and curve giving me something to react to, instead of trying to define the vessel from the beginning. Once it neared completion, it reminded me of the importance of paying attention to our innermost selves, the intuitive or heart-driven parts, even when it feels vulnerable to do so.
