I hope your week has been amazing so far, and also… how is it March already? 🙂
For tomorrow’s First Friday at Artspace, I’m excited that there’s a lot of fun happenings. There are new exhibitions being unveiled, including artwork by highly acclaimed artist Clarence Heyward, live music, free activities, and much more. If you’re in the area, pop on by and say hello, the fun starts around 6pm and goes on until 10pm!
Also if you come by in person, you’ll be able to see some of my new paintings in progress… this is what they look like now but they will look different tomorrow!
In other art-y news, I got the chance to do an artist talk with high school students this past weekend. As in they showed up to a school-related event on a Saturday, I was so impressed! They are all in advanced placement art classes and so talented! The group was a bit shy at first, so I did my best to remember what it was like when I was an awkward teenager too, hahaha. Luckily we connected through our love of all things art, and it didn’t take long before they were asking some really insightful questions.
I got to meet some of their art teachers too and was reminded of the important work that they do. Creativity is such an important part of our lives, whether we are more focused on making art, or enjoying its many forms, we all need it.
I believe that’s one of the reasons I am so drawn to facilitating art workshops. It gives me the opportunity to share forward what I’ve learned about the art-making process, but also the mindset that comes along with it, and how it can apply to other areas too. And the chance to remind students, making art is a lot like cooking… you may need instructions and recipes at first, but practice definitely makes better.
Speaking of classes, some of the new ones available include the Playful Bud Vases workshop, inspired by the floral sculpture I’m co-designing and building for the NC Museum of Art’s big Art In Bloom event. Upcoming Art Discovery Day painting workshop features guest artist Isabel Lu. Details on workshops page.
As always, thank you for your love an support, it means the world to me.
